Hypocarcy of Democracy

So today I was thinking of some marketing ideas for the station. One of our AE’s has PartyPoker.com, but their ads are only allowed to run after 1000p on the Fox and UPN stations in San Diego. This is not a Fox or UPN policy, it’s a station policy. Well, I said I thought that policy was stupid. Why should the station run ads for carbonated sugar water, and fa(s)t-food and not run ads for online poker.

In America, coronary heart dieses are the number one killer and Diabetes is a huge and growing problem. Both problems are more important than some compulsive gamblers. In addition, these ads are not limited to the late hours of 1000p, they run in cartoons and after school times. Why, because they are targeting kids. That’s what they do; they are going after the very people who don’t need soda and fast food. This is one of the reasons todays Americans are so overweight and dying at earlier ages.

In other pissed-me-off news, the Super Bowl is this weekend, and CBS is not allowing certain people to advertise during the game. Bullshit. What’s worse, the excuses they use. Here’s a pretty good article about it.

Why is it that every time I go to a store or fast-food restaurant, everybody wants to give me a bag to put my stuff in? Example: Today I bought a birthday card at Walgreens. A thin, average birthday card. After I paid for it, the guy put it in a big plastic bag. The kind you get at the supermarket. I said, “It’s ok, I don’t need a bag. and he looked at e like I was crazy. It’s not like it was raining outside or anything; it was nice out. But this guy was Quick-draw with the plastic bags.

So then, as I’m coming upstairs to the office, I stop in at the little store and buy some Naked Juice and a Kit-Kat, and again, the lady whipped out a paper bag like some ninja. I’m like, “Whoa, I don’t need a bag, I going to drink it right now”, and again I got a look like I was the crazy one. These people; don’t they know that if they don’t give a bag for everything, then they are actually saving money? Not much money, but it adds up.

Anyway, next time you buy something small or insignificant, see how they react when you tell them you don’t need a bag. Then tell them you are saving them cash. See if they care; cuz they won’t.

First, I want to apologize to Brian for call the ribbon on his arm “shit”. As in, “Dude, what’s that shit on your arm mean?” I should have used my communications degree and asked my question in a more less confrontational manner. So I will ask him now, “Hey Brian, would you please explain to me the meaning behind that wonderfully accentuating ribbon you are currently wearing on your forearm?”

All at the house are quite curious and would be grateful if you let us into your world, but if not, that’s fine too, friend and roomie!

Last night I caught up with Caroline, Kelly, and Brian at a Jewish/Chinese restaurant. I didn’t eat, but the music was fantastic. I think the music was used to cover up the sound of cats being killed. I had a great time and I hope Kelly turns in to the great eBay-er I know she can be. Go Kelly!

I also got a phone call from an old friend. Does anybody out there remember….Kelly from Colorado? She called me last night. We did some catching up, as friends do, and she’s coming to town. So, some time soon, I’ll be downing Rolling Rock and smoking in Westwood. All are welcome. Kelly, it was nice to hear your voice again.

So this afternoon, at lunch, I finally cleared Metroid Fusion. It took 7 hours of gameplay and about a year of time. I bought it last Thanksgiving, I think. It’s been so long. Anyway, I passed it. No I can play the GameCube version , Metroid Prime and get the Fusion suit. Sweet. I will start from the begining and improve my time. Thanks for all your support.
