So if you chill with me on the West Side, you know that my car has been out of commission. Two weeks ago I got in my car and turned the key – click click click. So I walked to work that day. Well, that was 2 1/2 weeks ago and I really haven’t looked back. I spend all my time at work or at home and not really anywhere in between. I have hitched a ride here and there to a bar or after work event, but for the most part – no big deal.

Well, this week I think I will need to at least try to start the car and take it to Midas (trust the midas touch). We’ll see what the diagnosis is and what I’m gonna do with Blacky.

On the good side, I’ve dropped about 10lbs in the last three weeks from walking everywhere and not having access to late night food.

Los Angeles, I’m Breaking up with you

Los Angeles with a little pollution and a great view

We have had some good times Los Angeles, and I will always love you; but I think it’s time I moved on. I will miss your mild climate and crazy culture, your clubs and landmarks, and your proximity to Las Vegas. There is so much you have. Los Angeles, it’s not you, it’s me – I promise. I have changed. My life, my priorities, my wants and needs are changing. I want more from this life. I want to live in a city that has less traffic, is affordable, is cleaner, and offers different opportunities.

So it’s time for you and I to make the break. This hurts me more than it hurts you, I promise. But you have a lot of people who still love you, you’ll find someone else. As for me, well I gotta get back in the game, but I’m sure I can find a new place to live. Thank you Los Angeles, I will miss you.

.la and Real Estate

So I was listening to Buzz Out Loud and heard that a new top-level domain was available – .la (dot LA). It is the Official top level domain of Los Angeles. So a company has the rights to it now and is selling .la domains at $50/year.

In other news, I work for a company that sells pre-built web sites to real estate agents. Well, working for a company that is real estate centric and being surrounded by people who are of the same mind-set means that we have a lot of ideas about how to make the market better. For example, I have a lot of ideas for brokers, Chris has a lot of ideas for rentals. Together, we will take over the world.

I work with a lot of people who have great ideas. Is this common? I have worked at other places where people clock-in and do what they are told. Not so much here. We do clock-in, but we think a lot. Always trying to make things better. This is ironic because there are so many walls up that don’t allow us to produce these ideas. Make sense. We have half of the Google Labs model. Unfortunately its the thinking half, not the building half.

And that brings me to my other friend, who recently quit his gig because he had the ideas, and built them, but they were never released to market. Why would a company do this. Why limit the build and if you allow the build, why never release? At least he has the balls (and the means) to leave and make life on his own terms. I do not have the means, but I would love to move along.
